Kostin has been away from the sharks as he has suffered a lower body injury that has kept him away for at least a month and will likely be back in the lineup versus the Dallas Stars.
Kostin Has not had a great season as he has played 26 games for the sharks, scoring one goal with three assists for four points and is a minus four.
He only played for the Edmonton Oilers for one season, he quickly became a fan favorite and had the best numbers in his career as he had played 57 games, scored 11 goals with 10 assists for 21 points and was a + 12 with 66 penalty minutes.
After his successful season, on June 29th, 2023, Kostin along with Kailer Yamamoto was traded to the Detroit Red Wings for future considerations.
Even though the Red Wings did not offer him a qualifying offer, he managed to sign a two-year deal with the team worth $4 million which held a cap hit of $2,000,000 per season.
If the Sharks are willing to move Kostin, general manager Stan Bowman and his management team should consider bringing him back into the fold. His style of play and his size standing at six foot four and 232 lbs would benefit their bottom 6 much like he did when he played for the Oilers.
He would give the bottom six a different look and give them some physicality that is needed in the Stanley Cup playoffs. With the San Jose Sharks still collecting draft picks and prospects, it's safe to say it would not cost the Oilers much to acquire Kostin and would help their immediate chances.
It's widely expected that Bowman along with his team will evaluate their organization and make decisions soon as the NHL has entered its two week break with the Four Nations faceoff tournament.
