In a recent interview, Edmonton Oilers general manager Stan Bowman has revealed his trade deadline plans which is not sitting well with some Oilers fans as he feels they may not do much at the deadline.

«I'm not ruling out higher-up-the-lineup-type players, but there's more complications with those, whether it's their contractual status or..their cap situation. There are more moving parts.., but I wouldn't rule it out.» - Bowman

It appears that he may not be able to make the moves some fans feel are necessary as many think the Oilers require more talent including a new goaltender which would give the team the best chance to try for another shot at the Stanley Cup.

Bowman may have trouble making a big trade at deadline

Bowman explained that several of the high-end free agents or high-end players that may be available could have contractual issues, term and high cap hits that may not be able to fit in the Oilers budget.

Some fans have taken to the X platform and expressed their disappointment and anger that the Oilers would be willing to sit pat with what they have rather than go out and get what they need to solidify their roster and first place in the Pacific division.

The narrative that the Oilers don't need to add because they're already good enough is pure laziness and a losers mentality. Winning organizations aren't okay with just being «good enough». This Oilers don't need more depth. They need a goalie and a play driving forward.

Several names have been linked to the Oilers over the past few weeks

Many hockey pundits believe the Oilers will be active during the trade deadline as this season isn't all in season and will be willing to do whatever is necessary to attempt to win their next Stanley Cup.

Several players have been linked to the team including goaltender John Gibson of the Anaheim Ducks, defenseman Connor Murphy of the Chicago Blackhawks and even Mikko Rantanen who apparently is having trouble being in the Carolina Hurricanes organization.

Secondary scoring and more consistent goaltending will be in the cards whether it's a tandem goaltender situation or a brand-new starter it's safe to say, that the Oilers will need to do whatever it takes to solidify their chances and try to win the Stanley Cup while they still have both Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl together.
