Moments ago, the Edmonton Oilers announced that they've mutually parted ways with assistant General Manager Brad Holland.

The Oilers released a statement on social media today, with CEO Jeff Jackson thinking Holland and wishing him well. Now, Keith Gretzky is the only serving assistant GM on the team.

Holland joined the Oilers in 2019 as the director of pro scouting, and was promoted to the role of assistant General Manager in 2022. Only 43 years old, Brad is also the son of former GM Ken Holland.

Some fans that were extremely critical of Ken Holland's moves as GM still defended Brad Holland's work as the team's pro scout. In the years since he joined the team, the Oilers had been able to identify undervalued players around the league to effectively contribute. The Oilers may have to make another hire to their scouting department without Holland, but for now, fans can have faith that Jeff Jackson and Stan Bowman are still effectively identifying talent.

The Pro Scout will play a major role for the Oilers this year as they hunt to acquire a defenceman in trade. Hopefully they make the right hire, and make the right addition to the blue line that will put the Oilers over the top in next year's playoffs.
