After coming just short of a Stanley Cup this season, the Edmonton Oilers are looking to make one big signing to address one of their longest standing needs: a winger for Leon Draisaitl.

Now, the deal is official to sign Victor Arvidsson. The Oilers got fantastic value on the deal, signing him for two years at $4M each year.

According to multiple sources, the Edmonton Oilers are expected to sign a top six forward in free agency today. So far, the leading candidates connected to the Oilers are Jake DeBrusk and Victor Arvidsson.

Victor Arvidsson is a veteran at 31 years old, and has a long track record of being a consistent producer in the NHL. He struggled with injuries last season and withered under the Los Angeles Kings' defensive system, but has always been a reliable scorer. Arvidsson is also a good friend of Oilers defenceman Mattias Ekholm, who could convince the scorer to sign with Edmonton over another team.

With the Nashville Predators, Arvidsson scored over 30 goals twice, and was often a threat for 60 points a season. In an offensive system and beside Leon Draisaitl, Victor Arvidsson looks like a fantastic fit on the Edmonton Oilers. With his struggle and injury last season, they got a bargain on the cap hit for the offensive ceiling he has.

Jake DeBrusk is the target Oilers fans are dying to sign. The 27 year old Edmonton born left winger has proven to be a quality scorer in his 465 career NHL games with the Boston Bruins. Multiple times in his career DebRusk has neared 30 goals, and paired with Leon Draisaitl, DeBrusk could unlock his full offensive potential - just like Zach Hyman did. Add to the fact DeBrusk is a hometown player that's long been rumoured to want to play in Edmonton, it'd be a great story to sign him. In addition to the Oilers, the Flames and Canucks are believed to be in on DeBrusk.

If the Oilers can acquire at least one of these forwards and retain enough of their Cup Final appearance roster, this team will be much improved next season. With the right additions at the trade deadline, the Oilers will become a sure thing to go deep into the playoffs again, and hopefully back to the Stanley Cup Final. Without an official general manager, all eyes will be on the team's future guided by Presidenf Jeff Jackson.
