It's become clear that the trade the Edmonton Oilers had made with the Philadelphia Flyers during last year's draft will bear fruit as Oilers top prospect Sam O'Reilly's stock is rising fast in the OHL.

The decision to pull off that late first round draft deal with the Flyers who acquired this pick from the Florida Panthers through the Claude Giroux deal in 2022 is looking better and better with each passing game.

O'Reilly's future looks bright for the Oilers

O'Reilly has an incredible plus 44 which ties him for 6th in the oh HL and has twenty goals on the season.
The Oilers have been pleased with his development considering he is on one of the best junior programs in the Canadian Hockey League, bodes well for how fast he will be able to come through the system in Bakersfield and then on to the Oilers.
The Oilers are developing him slowly and steady as the team is in a win now mode and would like to keep him growing and improving as he will be needed in a few years time.
The team is in no rush to bring him up to the NHL as many teams have done so in the past and have ruined their prospects when the callups are just not necessary.

O'Reilly has many options in his arsenal to benefit Oilers

According to eliteprospects.com, the website has pegged him as a relentless shutdown defensive centre who has physicality and is clever with his passing game.
The 18-year-old who stands at six foot one and 190 lbs is sitting on an entry level contract worth $964,000 per season.
Through this past season with the London Knights, he has played 53 games, has scored 18 goals with 35 assists for 53 points along with 31 penalty minutes and is a + 44.
It's safe to say that the Oilers will keep this prospect for the long term as his pedigree continues to shine and his value continues to rise and will likely be on the Oilers roster within the next couple of years.
