According to Oilers writer Jason Gregor, Evander Kane could possibly miss the entire regular season if he requires surgery to his hip.
At his end of season media availability Oilers President Jeff Jackson confirmed that Kane was dealing with a hip injury, and that the team would be discussion options with his agent. Not only does Kane have an injury with his hip that may require surgery, but he also confirmed that he has a sports hernia, which also may require surgery.
The Oilers are currently over the salary cap by $2.4M, and still need to sign Broberg and Holloway, so a roster move will happen to be cap compliant for next year. The Oilers have explored options to trade Evander Kane, but if they can get medical confirmation that he won't be ready for several months, it's a possibility they could place him on LTIR until the playoffs.
As of now, Evander Kane looks to be the odd man out of the Oilers roster next year, especially after the signings of Victor Arvidsson and Jeff Skinner. How Kane is moved off the roster however is yet to be seen, and if he doesn't play next season, he could still be on the playoff roster.
