According to reports from the Two Mutts Hockey Podcast, Evander Kane will exercise his No Move Clause to block a trade out of Edmonton. Additionally, he will not require surgery, and will be healthy for the beginning of next season. Kane is even building a home in Edmonton, and sees it as his long term city.
The Edmonton Oilers still need to clear salary cap space for next season, and have a clear surplus at the forward position. There have been reports as well that there's some friction between Oilers management and Kane, which would also continue to the reasoning of a trade.
For the upcoming season, Evander Kane has the full power to stay in Edmonton no matter what with his No Move Clause. However, the contract will shift to a modified no trade clause for the trade deadline of 2025 - and that will be the earliest the Oilers could move Kane without his approval.
Now it seems that the Oilers are targeting a move on defence to get their team under the salary cap for next season. Insiders are reporting that Cody Ceci and Brett Kulak are on the trade block, and the Oilers would like to upgrade on that position.
Even with all the controversy surrounding him, the reality is that Evander Kane can be an incredible player for the Oilers. He was greatly ineffective last playoffs due to injuries, but if he can stay healthy, having Kane on the third line gives the Oilers easily the best forward group in the NHL. If he can stay healthy, put his head down and work, the Oilers and their fans will be thrilled to have Kane back next year.
