It's been 24 hours since the Calgary Flames decided to move Chris Tanev to the Dallas Stars for two draft picks and prospect. While some feel this is a decent deal for the Flames considering they would be losing him for nothing in the offseason, it appears that other teams were prepared to offer a better deal which the Flames turned down.

According to Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic, the team in the league offered a first round choice to the flames for Tanev and he feels that the Edmonton Oilers are one of the teams that were likely to do so.

Adding Tanev to the Oilers while removing Cody Ceci would have been a huge upgrade for the team as they are preparing to push to solidify a playoff spot and prepare for a long playoff drive. Tanev is the kind of player the Oilers needed has his tough style and playoff style hockey would have improve them greatly.

In another report from Elliotte Friedman, he revealed that the Flames preferred not to trade Tanev within the division, other former general manager in Toronto. Due to this, the price to acquire Tanev was higher for these teams, and Dallas could put together a lesser offer that enticed the Flames.

Perhaps the battle of Alberta got in the way of doing business, we will never know.
