During a recent episode of the Oilers nation podcast, it was revealed that former Oilers Shawn Horcoff Has been added as a potential new general manager for the team.

Current interim General Manager and President of Hockey OPS Jeff Jackson has made it clear that he does not desire the general manager's job on a full-time basis. He feels that another executive should look after that role while he runs the overall team.

Several names have appeared as potential choices including Oilers legendary defenseman and assistant coach Paul Coffey, current Oilers executives Keith Gretzky, Brad Holland and even former Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman.

Both hosts feel that Horcoff could be a good choice for general manager, however, he is still learning the role of assistant GM in Detroit and has not been in the job very long. With big ticket items such as the Evan Bouchard contract, Leon Draisaitl contract and locking up Connor McDavid long term they both feel that an experienced general manager would be more appropriate.

Horcoff has deep ties with the organization as he was drafted by the Oilers in 1999. He also served as team captain and he played the bulk of his career with the Oilers which began in 2000-01.

It seems Oilers Nation will not have to wait much longer for an announcement as it appears that within the next 10 days Jackson will announce his candidate.

Even though the priority is to get a general manager, Oilers fans have been applauding the work that Jackson has been doing in the interim as he has reshaped the roster and added several big names to round out the team.
