Desharnais who played with the Oilers last season and faced off against the Canucks in the second round certainly brought an interesting perspective to his new Vancouver Canucks teammates. The comment that he made was certainly echoed by many throughout the NHL about Miller and managed to get a long rowdy laugh from everyone in that room including all Canucks players participating.
The 28-year-old right shot defenseman earned a two-year deal with the Canucks valued at $4 million that holds a cap hit of 2,000,000 per season. Desharnais spent the bulk of his time in Edmonton with their AHL affiliate the Bakersfield Condors until he received a call to play for the Oilers and never looked back.
Desharnais will likely be moving up and down the defensive line up as he is likely to be starting on the third pairing but could be moved into the second pairing in case of injuries. Known as a shutdown and defensive defensemen, he played 78 games last year for the Oilers, scoring one goal with 10 assists for 11 points and is a + 3 and played 15 minutes and 44 seconds of average ice time.
It remains to be seen on how he will be used by head coach Rick Tocchet but It's clear that general manager Patrik Allvin has high confidence in him.
