Former Edmonton Oilers forward Ryan Strome just welcomed his third child with his wife, and told reporters a hilarious story behind the name.

According to the Ducks broadcast, Strome named his newborn son Nash, which he explained was short for National League.

It may have been just a joke from Strome to the locker room reporter, but hockey players would use a hilarious shorthand like Nash for the NHL. The name Nash isn't absurd either, and could totally have the double meaning of National League. It's the most hockey name ever, and in a family like the Strome's with three professional hockey players, maybe it's actually fitting.

Ryan Strome played 100 games for the Edmonton Oilers with the team between 2017 and 2019. The Oilers acquired Strome for fan favourite Jordan Eberle in a trade with the New York Islanders - a deal that was never popular. Strome wasnt great in Edmonton, only scoring 13 goals and 34 points in 82 games before he was traded for Ryan Spooner the next season. Some good came out of that for Oilers fans though, as they eventually moved Spooner to get Sam Gagner back.

Ryan Strome has since gone on to play 7 seasons after his time with the Oilers, split between the New York Rangers and Anaheim Ducks. Now 31 years old, he's carved out a full NHL career for himself, and is even nearing 1000 career games played - currently at 787. With around two and a half more seasons of full games played, he'll hit the lauded career milestone.

Oilers fans and hockey fans everywhere wish the best to the Strome family, and certainly will love the name of Nash(ional League).
