In the latest episode of the 32 Thoughts Podcast, insider Elliotte Friedman said that agents have told him players are taking Edmonton off their no-trade lists.
Gone are the narratives that the team isn't good enough, or anything about weather or taxes. Players are interested in the incredible environment the Edmonton Oilers have right now. Not only is it obviously attractive to play with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, but the rest of the team is now playoff tested and looks primed to win under the new coaching staff. Any player watching last year's playoffs surely saw Oil Country proving that they're the best fans in the NHL, too.
Edmonton and playing for the Oilers is now a destination for NHL players, and it's fantastic to finally see it happen as fans. This new attitude should be able to help the roster this season, especially near the trade deadline when acquiring a rental player - perhaps a top four defenceman. Elliotte Friedman also reported that Kevin Shattenkirk would love to play for the Oilers this season, and could take a tryout contract.
The Oilers have the talent and the experience to make multiple more time at the Stanley Cup, but they'll need to acquire some more players along the way. This new attitude of players actually wanting to play in Edmonton will make that so much easier.
