It's becoming evident that Oilers CEO and interim general manager Jeff Jackson has begun putting his stamp on the team after the departure of former Oilers general manager Ken Holland. Friedman has stated to this point that there has not been any communication between the Oilers and Kane regarding his no movement clause, but it remains to be seen on whether the team will do so.
Kane has not been the same player since he suffered his gruesome wrist injury last year and has not returned to form and given the Oilers what they hoped for after awarding him a four-year $20 million deal which holds a cap value of $5.125 million per season. His play became so poor that he was sat out during the last few games of the Stanley Cup finals.
With unrestricted free agency set to start on July 1st, it's likely Jackson and the current management team will attempt to ask him to waive his no movement clause as the Oilers seek more cap space as they prefer to upgrade their top six forwards.
With only $12.8 million in cap space and only 14 players signed for next season a major move will come to the Oilers and moving a player like Kane would certainly help their situation.
