Gregor believes that NHL officials tried to keep the game as close to parity when it comes to penalties which diminishes the Oilers chances of receiving power plays as he feels the better teams can draw more penalties than the latter.
For this reason, the Oilers are currently ranked near the bottom when it comes to power play opportunities which significantly reduces the chance for the Oilers to score power play goals and take advantage of their elite offense.
Yaremchuk echoes the sentiments of Gregor that the best teams in the league tend to have the calls go their way including several during one game but yet the Oilers do not seem to have that option as he feels the Oilers are not considered proven winners.
Even with their few opportunities, the Oilers currently sit 8th overall when it comes to their power play which is sitting at 23.9% efficiency this is compared to the Winnipeg Jets who sit at 31.9% who are at the top of the league.
The Oilers are hoping to stop their current losing streak as they prepare to take on the Vancouver Canucks.
All eyes will be on this game after several tense and heated moments at the end of last Saturday night's game where Connor McDavid received a three-game suspension after being wrestled and held for 12 seconds on the ice and then crosscheck Garland's face after losing his cool.
It's safe to say this game may be penalty filled especially early on as nerves were frayed and animosity has built itself between both clubs as the aftermath of Saturday should spill over into this week's game.
The game will take place on January 25th and game time will be 10:00 PM eastern.
