The Oilers were $2.4M over the salary cap before the McLeod trade, and now they have just $1.5M left in space to sign RFAs Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway. To afford to re-sign both players, the Oilers will need to clear more salary space this offseason.
Evander Kane and Cody Ceci are the two candidates most brought up as a salary cap dump, and potentially to make the team better as well. There's no room in the lineup anymore for Evander Kane, and the Oilers could definitely look to improve on Cody Ceci to make the team better.
After the incredible value additions of Jeff Skinner and Victor Arvidsson, if the Oilers can make a significant move to improve their defence, this roster will be nearly flawless. The next order of business will be to officially hire a General Manager and begin contract extension talks with Leon Draisaitl.
For a team that already went to the Stanley Cup Final, these additions will put the team over the top. The Oilers will likely have a much better regular season next year, and hopefully get home ice advantage for the playoffs this time around.
