The incredible run continues for the Edmonton Oilers as they now have a record of 18-4-1 in their past 23 games which is putting them right behind the Vegas golden Knights for top spot in the Pacific division.
With their win on Wednesday, the Oilers moved to 18-4-1 in their past 23 games. They're within two points of Pacific Division-leading Vegas and four points out of the top spot in the NHL. How are they doing it? @SportsnetSpec has the story. - Sportsnet
Oilers on the heels of the Vegas Golden Knights for top spot in division
Mark Spector of Sportsnet mentioned the Oilers have been putting together some great hockey during the streak and have won games in different forms including a low score affair against the Los Angeles Kings and have a high chance game against the Minnesota Wild.
They'll beat Los Angeles 1-0 in a low event, tight defensive pitchers' duel. Or they'll walk into St. Paul and defeat the Wild in high-event fashion, out-chanced 29-19 by the Wild, according to Natural Stat Trick. - Mark Spector Sportsnet
Some members of the Oilers have also spoken out on their latest surge in the standings as backup goaltender
Calvin Pickard explains how the Oilers are managing the tough schedule as the league is compressed in January due to the Four Nations face off set to start in February.
«Good players, good staff,» Pickard said. «We play a game, we re-set, and we just
go do it again. We've got to do it again (Thursday at Colorado). It's a tough stretch of games for us, but we're doing really well.»- Calvin Pickard Edmonton Oilers
Oilers closing in on top team in the NHL
Their current winning streak is putting them in a great position to win the Pacific division and potentially becoming the best team in the NHL for the regular season.
Though, there's still plenty of hockey to play, this is the toughest stretch of the season due to the compressed schedule and if the Oilers continue to shine, they may find themselves in the driver's seat when the playoffs began.
No matter the case, the Oilers must continue to play at their best and will likely see some movement on the trade in front as general manager Stan Bowman will attempt to improve the team even further at the beginning of March.
