Josh Brown was signed to a three year contract this offseason but didn't make the opening roster, and has played most of the year with the Bakersfield Condors.
In last night's Oilers game against the Minnesota Wild, Josh Brown actually played a season high of 17:25 and notched a rare assist.
However, the most notable moment for Brown on the night was when he took a penalty out of vengeance that cost his team a goal on the penalty kill.
Brown does provide some toughness, sure, but it can't be senseless like his actions last night. Toughness needs to be an attitude the entire team has, not just the 7th defenceman decking opponents during the play.
While at times Brown looked decent stopping cycles, he was caught out of position, looked slow, and fumbled too many pucks.
Oilers fans took to social media to express how much they want him off the team.
The Edmonton Oilers currently have an extra body on the roster after the recall of Noah Philp. According to PuckPedia, this means they're just over the salary cap and dipping into LTIR spending.
It would follow that the Oilers don't plan to be over the salary cap for too long, and another roster move will be coming shortly to get the team under the cap again.
Noah Philp just got and needs runway before the playoffs, which means Josh Brown would be the next most likely candidate to go back down to the AHL.
The Oilers schedule right now is fast and furious with 4 games in the last 6 days on a road trip, so perhaps they wanted Brown available to ease the load.
Now that's over, Brown should be heading back to the AHL - probably for the next two years, too.
