With poise and confidence Broberg retrieved the puck in his own zone and made a brilliant effort to split the defence the middle, and walk right in to snap a wrist shot in the net, securing the own for the Condors.
As the 8th overall selection by the Oilers in the 2019 draft, the team still has high hopes that Broberg can develop into an impact defenceman. Broberg's trade request was about not finding enough playing opportunities within the organization, and so the team sent him down to play top minutes in the AHL. The move worked out for both parties, as Broberg took a big step in his development this year, and has since rescinded his trade request.
Now with 5 goals and 34 points in 48 games, Broberg has impressed enough with offensive production and his overall play enough to be seriously considered for a roster spot with the Oilers for next season. As the Oilers play a gauntlet of 5 games in 7 days to end the season, it's possible that he's called up near the end to get a look with the big club and rest some other defencemen. Otherwise, Broberg will gain some instrumental playoff experience as the Condors look to make a run in the AHL playoffs.
