The Oilers are facing a seriously tough schedule down the stretch. They've currently played the least amount of games of any team in the league, and their last week will feature 5 games in 7 days including a road trip to end the season. It's likely the Oilers will rest some players during these games, and the team will call up Philip Broberg, Dylan Holloway, and Raphael Lavoie to fill in.
The end of the season is always a great opportunity to rest some players nursing nagging injuries, and find some opportunities to get looks at emerging players in the system. Broberg and Lavoie have spent the majority of the year with the AHL's Bakersfield Condors, both having incredible success.
Broberg 22 points in 41 games played this year has turned heads and may earn him a shot on the opening roster next year. Lavoie, a second round draft pick of the Oilers in 2017, has really begun to develop as an offensive threat. In two straight seasons with the Condors, the 23 year old center has scored over 25 goals. Both players earned short stints of playing time with the Oilers earlier this year, but did not have much success.
Still, it's a great opportunity for both the team and the fans to see the next generation of players in the Oilers system. With this stretch of games beginning soon, it's likely we see these players called up within the next week or so.
