Leon Draisaitl is due for a massive payday when his next contract kicks in next season, and he may already be investing some of that money into a new sports team.

In a video posted to Instagram yesterday, Draisaitl revealed that he's become co-owner of a soccer team in the new German league, the Icon League.

Teams are represented by 14 Teamheads, former soccer players and other celebrities in Germany, and it appears they may actually play games, too. Leon Draisaitl does not appear to be playing, just co-owning the team.

»The league was created by German streamer Elias Nerlich and the recently retired Toni Kross. The latter spent the past 10 seasons with soccer giant Real Madrid, winning the Champions League at the start of June before riding off into the sunset.»

It's interesting to see where Leon Draisaitl is focusing his offseason and non-hockey interests. It's not clear if he actually has any financial commitment to the league as a new co-owner, but regardless if it's from the Oilers or another team, Draisaitl is in for a massive payday next season. He's been playing the last 8 years on a bargain contract of only $8.5M, and next season could be bumped up to $14M - the highest paid player in the NHL.
