Trevor Moore skated towards Desharnais, and seemingly seeing the size mismatch, he dived down to take out his knees with a very late and low hit. Desharnais went down to the ice awkwardly, and looked pretty shaken up as he returned to the bench. Plenty of Oilers fans are calling for Moore to be suspended for the play and his clear intent to injure Desharnais by going so low at him. Former Oilers forward Josh Archibald had even been suspended for a similar hit just a few years ago.
Trevor Moore needs to see some kind of discipline for this hit here or else it could let the players know that the series is going to be a little more hands off from the refs. Desharnais did return to finish the game, so a full strength Oilers will be back at it for Wednesday's game. Still, it's very possible that Desharnais sustained an injury on the play, and may not be as effective to be with a knee injury. Later in the game, the Kings were clearly frustrated, with Moore spotted tossing his stick down the tunnel.
This has been the tone of the series the past two years, and it seems like they picked it up right where they left it off. The two teams were trading hits and going at each other all night and it seems like the players are getting a little bit off track with the cheap shots. This hit was late, low, and clearly had intent to injure - and Moore needs to see discipline for that, or the Oilers will have to take it in their own hands.
