It was revealed earlier today that Kane will undergo surgery in the next few days to repair both abductors muscles, 2 hernias and two abdominal tears. That is a significant number of injuries and will require major surgery too take care of the issues.
Dr Grewal explains that this will also be a complicated rehab and players who undergo these kinds of surgeries could have setbacks. Grewal feels that it's likely Kane will miss the entire season which changes the entire dynamic of the Oilers cap situation.
Currently, according to Puckpedia, the Oilers cap situation sits around $945,000 available. With Kane on the shelf, his contract of $5.125 million per season will go on to long term injury reserve. This will not allow his cap hit to count towards the Oilers which will give them an opening to spending on more players.
General manager Stan Bowman along with CEO Jeff Jackson will likely hang on to this money until the trade deadline next March which will allow the Oilers to obtain at least one or two more players to help them in their next cup run.
As many people know, if Kane is healthy in the playoffs began he would be allowed to re-enter the Oilers lineup with no repercussions to the organization.
This situation is fluid with the organization and the fanbase awaiting to see the results of the surgery. But with that much damage, it's likely he will miss a large portion if not the entire season.
