The St. Louis Blues and the rest of the hockey world are mourning the passing of Colin Brown, a 16 year old high school hockey player senselessly killed in his way home from the rink with his Father.

According to a statement from the St. Louis Blues, Brown was shot while driving home on November 23rd.

An article from HockeyFeed had the circumstances in which the horrific event occurred.

»The young man who played for Christian Brothers College High School (CBC) was riding in the passenger seat with his dead when he was shot on Interstate 55 in Missouri around 10:30pm on Saturday evening. He was rushed to hospital with critical injuries and succumbed to those injuries yesterday afternoon.»

The perpetrators of the crime have not yet been identified or arrested by St. Louis Police.

Colin Brown's family made a long statement in a St. Louis newspaper this morning, thanking first responders for their efforts and calling for more resources to be direct towards them, while also asking for prayers for the family.

We want to thank the St. Louis and Chicago hockey communities for their overwhelming support during this difficult time Please continue to pray for our son and his medical team. Fight for Brownie #72.

Brown's coach gave a heartwarming, but tragically sweet comment about the time he spent coaching the high schooler.

»He's the type of kid that every coach wants on his team»

Many members of the hockey community in Missouri and Illinois gathered for a vigil to honour Brown's memory in Illinois.

Just yesterday, news broke that former Oiler prospect Kristian Antila passed away at 44 years old too.

It's a horrific and senseless act of violence that tragically took a young life far too early. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by Colin's passing.
