There's no doubt that the Oilers are looking to improve and take another playoff run this post-season, especially with the way the Oilers can really turn it up with their offensive powerhouse, which is currently missing Evander Kane.
One team that is selling is the rebuilding Montreal Canadiens, Habs General Manager Kent Hughes has done an exceptional job since being hired last season replacing Marc Bergevin.
One trade topic that keeps popping up is a move between the Edmonton Oilers and Montreal Canadiens for defenceman Joel Edmundson, who Sportsnet's Elliote Friedman has linked the Oilers to his defensive abilities.
Edmonton Oilers reporter Ryan Rishaug also chimed in on the chatter and added some fuel to the fire, where he had Montreal Canadiens insider Arpon Basu on his podcast to discuss a potential trade fit between the two teams, specifically as it pertains to the Oilers blue line and how much this trade would help the Oilers.
"He checks' every box, he really does," said Basu of a fit for Edmundson on the Oilers' blue line on the Got Yer Back podcast. The only issue for the Oilers is they will likely have to move forward Jesse Puljujärvi first to clear the cap space to add Edmundson to the line up.. a fair swap?
The other issue is that Canadiens General Manager Kent Hughes isn't going to give Edmunson away without another top pick or prospect coming their way to help the Canadiens rebuild in return. But you get what you pay for with Edmunson, he's won a Stanley Cup in 2019 and was a huge piece of the Canadiens magic run back in 2021. Hughes knows what Edmunson is really worth, will the Oilers pay that asking price?
