Per Shane Seney of nhltraderumors.me, Oilers general manager Ken Holland has been discussing a few different deals this past week and it appears something could be finalized in the coming hours.

We all are aware of the Jesse Puljujarvi situation and how Holland wants to move him. He needs to upgrade his blueline and trading Puiljujarvi will allow him to do just that.

Potential trade partners for the Oilers could be the Montreal Canadiens, Columbus Blue Jackets, and the Anaheim Ducks. Possible trade candidates may be Joel Edmundson, Vladislav Gavrikov, or John Klingberg.

Hockey insider Chris Johnston had this to say about the Oilers' situation:

"When you have a team built around Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl in their primes, you're always in buy mode. The main item on the Oilers shopping list at this deadline is a left-shot defenceman. In order to free up some cap space, look for GM Ken Holland to potentially find a new home for struggling forward Jesse Puljujarvi. He is currently ranked at No. 14 on the Trade Deadline Big Board.

The clock is ticking for Holland who may lose out on a candidate if he waits too long. Defencemen are wanted by multiple teams as the March 3rd deadline approaches.

He has the advantage of having a trade asset who wants to be moved. The downside is Puljujarvi's game has declined significantly.

Yet, a deal could be worked out and the Oilers could be solving a need that has been around for a while.
