All Oilers fans know, this season will be marked as one with poor defense and goaltending. Many of their players have not performed the task their contracts have warranted. Darnell Nurse and Jack Campbell are to name a few in that category.

Currently, rumors have surfaced that the Oilers are currently looking at Anaheim Ducks defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk as a trade option as the March 3rd trade deadline approaches. David Pagnotta, an NHL insider of the Fourth Period reported:

The Ducks have been mired in one of the worst seasons in their franchise history and this has prompted many trade rumors across the league that the team will begin a full rebuild. Shattenkirk is currently in the final year of his contract and carrying a $3.9 million cap hit.

Shattenkirk will certainly be on the list of numerous teams looking for an upgrade for their playoff push and the Ducks will need to retain some salary to make this move.

The Oilers are fighting for a playoff spot currently, and Shattenkirk would be an upgrade they need desperately. It will depend on what general manager Ken Holland has in mind and what he would be willing to give up. Shattenkirk would bring veteran leadership and a Stanley Cup-winning pedigree to the Oilers.
