Edmonton Oilers leading Stanley Cup Odds?
The Edmonton Oilers are in the post-season mode, after an exciting regular season. Ken Holland's acquisitions have paid off, as they've been in win-now mode, and having 3-100 point scorers on your team only makes it certain.
MoneyPuck.com has released some interesting statistics about the playoff's certainties this season.
According to MoneyPuck.com right now, the Oilers are a shoo-in for the first two rounds and despite the fact, the percentages get tighter, they've still got the greatest chance at a cup run if we're going by MoneyPuck's odds.
Playoff Probabilities and Season Simulator
By running a simulation of the rest of the NHL season 100,000 times we can create precise probabilities of the outcome of the season for each team. Each game is simulated using the probabilities from the pre-game prediction model discussed below. For games further into the future, the model scores are regressed to the mean to account for uncertainty.
Keep in mind, there's no 100% accurate model, as there will always be variables but given how well the team has performed lately, it wouldn't be too far-fetched to assume that an offensive power like the Oilers, with Stuart Skinner in net, will be the team to beat in the West.
While the Oilers will likely face the Los Angeles Kings, a matchup with the Seattle Kraken or Winnipeg Jets is not out of the question when the postseason begins on April 17.
Edmonton's opposition will largely be determined by results on the out-of-town scoreboard from now until Friday (April 14), but could also depend on how the Oilers fare in their final game of the regular season on Thursday (April 13) at Rogers Place against the San Jose Sharks.
