Edmonton Oilers to Sign Fan Former Favourite as Newest Addition
A PTO was originally signed by the Edmonton Oilers with Sam Gagner during pre-season.
He has been with the team during training since the start of his PTO, and the team is preparing to offer him a contract.
Edmonton will offer Gagner a contract that will send him to its AHL affiliate and should be ready "any day now" as he waits in earnest.
In the off-season, Gagner underwent double hip surgery and was limited to practices during camp.
Oilers planned on reevaluating him after a month, but that time has passed.
He would be returning home to the Oilers for the third time since being drafted by the team in 2007. 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 marked his last stints with the team.
If Gagner is able to make it back to the NHL, he will become the team's 13th forward. In 2022-2023, he scored 8 goals and 14 points in 48 games with the Winnipeg Jets, playing 12 minutes per night.
