Gagner excited to Return to Edmonton on a PTO
During his career, Sam Gagner has played for the Edmonton Oilers twice and the Winnipeg Jets last season.
After being drafted 6th overall by Edmonton in 2007, he spent his first 7 NHL seasons with the team, and he will return to Edmonton in 2018 for a second stint.
What a summer! Huge thank you to the team @muskokahockey for getting me ready after double hip surgery. There was a ton of work that went into it and the attention to detail from @mentalhealthhockey, @moorezy92, @sawkakevin, @coachbmarsh, @regenerativehealth_ and countless others was instrumental in helping me get to this point. Still a lot of work to be done, but I am excited to get out to Edmonton and get going! @edmontonoilers
Gagner knows Edmonton well and is eager to compete for the 4th line center position, which will be up for grabs at training camp.
Having undergone double hip surgery in the summer, Gagner spent time training with Muskoka Hockey and getting professional help from Regenerative Sports Medicine. He now hopes to win a spot in Edmonton following his rehabilitation.
His average time on ice last season was 12 minutes per game, resulting in 14 points in 48 games played. In spite of a decline in offensive production, he is known as a highly-skilled hockey player with a great hockey IQ. After his recent operation, only his skating ability is in question.
A league minimum contract might be offered to Gagner if he can secure a spot in the lineup.
