It was a very important New Year's Eve for Team Canada. After falling to Team Czechia back on boxing day, the best Canada could finish in their group was second but a loss to Sweden could of meant third place.

Canada would come out guns blazing as Montreal Canadiens prospect Joshua Roy would give Canada a 1-0 lead just :57 seconds into the first period.

Brennan Othmann would give Canada a 2 goal lead then Logan Stankoven would make it 3-0 and looked like Canada was going to run away with this one.

Canada's momentum was slowed after getting a 5 minute major which Sweden would score one to get back into the game. Connor Bedard had one assist putting him just one point as way from tying Eric Lindros for most points by a Canadian player in World Junior history.

After Brennan Othmann got his 2nd goal of the game to restore Canada's 3 goal lead, Connor Bedard would set up Kevin Korchinski to make it 5-1 making Team Canada history.

Team Canada would go on to win 5-1 finishing 2nd in their group and will play Team Slovakia Monday night in the quarter finals. Bedard will be looking to get one more point to become Canada's all-time leader at the World Junior's but more importantly looking to repeat as World Junior champions.
