However, it won't just be the young guns and NHL all stars that will be heading to Florida, Five women's hockey players will be taking part in the 2023 NHL All-Star skills competition also.
The list consists of Team Canada's Sarah Nurse, Emily Clark and Rebecca Johnston along with Hilary Knight and Alex Carpenter of Team USA. Sarah Nurse, sister of Edmonton Oilers defenceman Darnell Nurse made history already becoming the first ever female to be a cover athlete for the EA Sports NHL hockey video games along with Anaheim Ducks star Trevor Zegras.
The skills competition will be on Saturday February 4th and will feature six events, including fastest skater, hardest shot, breakaway challenge, accuracy shooting, splash shot (one the beach in Fort Lauderdale), pitch �n puck (using hockey/golf on an island green) and tendy tandem involving shooting goalies.
Hockey Hall of Famer and Florida Panther's legend Roberto Luongo will suit up as the celebrity goaltender in the breakaway challenge.
The All-Star weekend gets mixed reviews from hockey fans, generally the hard-core fans hate it while the more casual fan seems to enjoy it but regardless what we think the players seem to enjoy it and get a weekend to just have fun and that's what hockey is all about.
