Washington Capitals defenseman John Carlson is poised to return to the ice after being sidelined for three months due to a head injury caused by a slapshot.

In a game against the Winnipeg Jets on December 23rd, former teammate Brendan Dillon unintentionally hit Carlson with a slapshot, prompting the player to exit the game with the assistance of Alexander Ovechkin and Dylan Strome. Carlson was then transported to the hospital on a stretcher.
In a recent interview with The Athletic's Tarik El-Bashir, Carlson recounted the details of his injury, which included a small skull fracture and a severed temporal artery.
He likened the experience to being struck by lightning, stating that it was a one-in-a-million occurrence. Carlson expressed appreciation for the support he received from his loved ones, teammates, and fans throughout his rehabilitation process. Although the exact date of his return to the Capitals' lineup remains uncertain, Carlson could potentially play in the game against the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday.
