Leafs Goaltender Refuses to Put on Pride Sticker
Last night, the Toronto Maple Leafs celebrated Pride Night during their game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. However, the team surprised fans by opting not to wear new Pride jerseys, choosing instead to wear LGBTQ+ Pride stickers on their helmets. The team justified their decision by emphasizing that actions are more meaningful than words.
Although the team's decision to show support for the LGBTQ+ community is commendable, not all players chose to wear the stickers. Ilya Samsonov, one of the Leafs' goalies, did not wear one and was not available for comment before the game to explain his decision.
Despite the absence of new Pride jerseys and some players choosing not to wear the stickers, the team's choice to host Pride Night and display their support for inclusivity in hockey is a positive step.
