Mattias Ekholm continues to demonstrate his fondness for the city of Edmonton, making it his new home. After being traded from the Nashville Predators during this year's trade deadline, many were curious about how he would adapt to the new city, having played for Nashville for numerous years.
Ekholm played a crucial role in helping the team secure a playoff spot, boasting one of the best records as they headed into the postseason.
Although the Oilers didn't advance past the second round, Ekholm consistently praised the city and relished the lively atmosphere it offered.
It seems that the warm hospitality of Edmonton stayed with Ekholm as he returned to the city earlier than expected to participate in the brick hockey tournament held at the West Edmonton Mall. In addition to handing out trophies to the young hockey players, he also took advantage of the mall's indoor skating rink.
Ekholm's presence in Edmonton is set to continue for the next three seasons, as he remains with the Oilers, carrying a cap hit of $6 million per season.
The 33-year-old defenseman played 21 games for the Oilers this past season, contributing four goals, 10 assists, and amassing 14 points with a +28 rating.
