I still remember hearing his name mentioned when he was just eight or nine years old during the intermission on Hockey Night in Canada. Scouts were reporting about this new phenomenal minor hockey player who had the potential to challenge the best in the NHL in the coming years.
McDavid has certainly lived up to those expectations and then some. The NHL Network recognized his extraordinary season and decided to tweet out a top-ten video showcasing his best goals of the year. They had 64 incredible goals to choose from, which ultimately earned him the Rocket Richard Trophy.
At 26 years old, McDavid played all 82 games this year, scoring an impressive 64 goals and providing 89 assists, resulting in a total of 153 points. He maintained a +22 rating, accumulated 36 penalty minutes, recorded 71 power-play points, including 21 power-play goals, and contributed 11 game-winning goals.
During the playoffs, he played in 12 games and achieved 20 points. In addition to these personal achievements, McDavid managed to capture four trophies, including the Hart, Art Ross, Ted Lindsay, and Rocket Richard awards.
However, despite all these accolades, the elusive trophy that McDavid strives to win is the Stanley Cup, which is one of the most difficult trophies to attain in professional sports. With the Oilers consistently making strides in the playoffs, McDavid will likely see a Stanley Cup Final with the Oilers sooner rather than later.
All in all, it has been an incredibly impressive year for McDavid.
