The ultimate goal for any NHL prospect is to make a name for themselves and secure a spot on the team's roster. These players have dedicated their lives to honing their skills and yearning for an opportunity like this. Teams may immediately bring them into the NHL due to a lack of talent or scoring or because they believe the player is ready to make a significant impact.

Xavier Bourgault, a first-round pick in the 2021 NHL draft, recently shared his thoughts on participating in the development camp held this week.

Standing at 6 feet tall and weighing 172 pounds, the 20-year-old center has spent the past year with the Bakersfield Condors. During this time, he played 62 games, scoring thirteen goals and providing 21 assists for a total of 34 points. He also accumulated 16 penalty minutes and maintained a +10 rating.

Currently signed with the Oilers for $925,000, Bourgault was selected 22nd overall in the draft. The Oilers are counting on players like him to solidify their roster, as they need their draft picks to consistently perform. This will help General Manager Ken Holland address salary cap issues without having to seek external assistance to improve the team.
