The Rookie Camp, which opened Wednesday September 13th. After Camp they will play in the Young Stars Classic from September 15th to the 18th in Penticton, BC.
After having medical and fitness testing at Rogers Place, the team will depart to Penticton to take on rookie teams of the Winnipeg Jets, Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks where games will be played at the South Okanagan Events Center this weekend.
To be noted, out of the 25 players invited, only one goalie and two defenseman were drafted by the Oilers organization.
One player invited for the second consecutive year is a beast of a defenseman by the name of Noah Ganske. 24 year old Ganske, is a right handed D who has spent the last 3 seasons developing in the NCAA.
Coming from the Fort Wayne Komets, the 6'7" 210lb defenseman was born April 21st, in Bloomington, Minnesota, making him the third oldest prospect at the Oilers Rookie Camp.
In comparison, Ganske is 6'7", one inch taller than the tallest current defenseman on the Oilers NHL roster, Desharnais, and weighs more than 7 of the 10 defenseman currently listed on the Oilers roster.
One thing the Vegas Golden Knights showed the Florida Panthers in the Stanley Cup Finals last year was that size wins....and Ganske has size...something the Edmonton Oilers might just need sometime very soon.
