As the Edmonton Oilers enter the Jeff Jackson era, it appears that the team will be driven largely by the use of analytics.

As a result, their newest hire has been lined up to be the Senior Director of Analytics in Edmonton, which would explain their new hire.

The #oilers have hired Michael Parkatti to a serve as senior director, data & analytics. He'll lead the creation and operation of a new analytics department.

The Edmonton Oilers recently announced they had hired Michael Parkatti to be the Senior Director of their Data and Analytics Department. As a result of his appointment, a new analytics department will be created for the team under his direction.

The fans have clamored for a more modern approach to hockey in the past, and Jackson is delivering on those hopes in a big way.

Jackson is pushing the team into a more progressive stance when it comes to hockey development, so this hire is exciting, other teams have also brought on analytics departments and have done very well as a result.

As a matter of fact, this is not Parkatti's first time working with the Oilers, since the team retained his services from 2013 to 2015 before bringing him aboard today.

«This is a very progressive hire for the Edmonton Oilers,» tweeted radio colour commentator Bob Stauffer. «Michael is a knowledgeable hockey guy with a very strong applied background in Analytics!»
