As NHL general managers make decisions about their prospect pool-deciding who will stay and who will go it becomes crucial for later draft picks to succeed and become regular players in any NHL organization.

The success of these draft picks is vital not only for a team's cap hit but also for building a strong foundation. While the Edmonton Oilers have seen some of their draft picks thrive over the years, many others have fallen short.

However, it seems that one of them has indeed worked out, and as a result, the Oilers have rewarded him with a new contract and a 5% increase in pay.

Raphael Lavoie has recently signed a new one-year two-way deal with the Edmonton Oilers, worth $874,000. If he spends some time with the Bakersfield Condors, his salary will be $70,000.

Lavoie stands out among the prospects due to his impressive physical attributes. Standing at 6 feet 4 inches and weighing 216 pounds, he was drafted in the second round, 38th overall, in the 2019 entry draft.

During the 2022-2023 season, he played 61 games for the Condors, tallying 25 goals and 20 assists for a total of 45 points. Additionally, he accrued 47 penalty minutes and boasted a plus-minus rating of +10.

Lavoie will likely make the Oilers' roster next year, despite not having played a game in the NHL yet. With the Oilers seeking to enhance their forward lines by adding depth, players like Lavoie have a good chance of making a significant impact and helping the team succeed.
