Early yesterday morning, the Spittin Chickets Podcast brought up a rumour they'd been hearing that Patrice Bergeron was warming up and working out in anticipation of a return to the Boston Bruins this season. Paul Bissonnette said directly he'd heard the Bruins' Captain may be making a comeback out of retirement.

The Podcast discussed the possibility of Bergeron returning to the Bruins near the trade deadline for one last hurrah, especially considering the team looks primed for another long run in the playoffs. However, the rumour has officially now been squashed as Patrice Bergeron has now relayed his response.

On Twitter today, Steve Conroy of the Boston Harold revealed that he reached out to Bergeron, who emphatically said that he would NOT be making a return to the NHL at all.

The rumour from Spittin chiclets certainly raised the hopes of hockey fans everywhere to root for one of the most universally respected players in NHL history. If there were any player in the modern era could make a comeback and still be an effective player, it would absolutely be Patrice Bergeron.
