Benson began his hockey career in Alberta as a AAA standout, putting up an impressive 146 points in 33 games.
He was later drafted by the Vancouver Giants and managed to notch 45 points in 62 games during the 2014-2015 season.
Despite struggling with injuries throughout his junior career, Benson made a name for himself in Bakersfield, where he scored 66 points in 68 games in the AHL. He maintained that production level in the 2020-2021 season, scoring 36 points in 36 games.
After scoring one goal in 29 games during the 2021-2022 season, Benson was sent back down to Bakersfield. He signed a one-year, two-way contract in 2022-2023, scoring 23 points in 43 games despite suffering from an injury. However, he only appeared in two games for the Oilers that season.
As a result of Benson turning 25 in March, this made him a Group VI free agent instead of an RFA.
As a result, he signed a contract with the Henderson Silver Knights, where he hopes to showcase his skills and earn a two-way contract with the Vegas Golden Knights.
