General Manager Stan Bowman along with his management team have made it clear that secondary scoring will be a priority in the lead up to the trade deadline.
For the past several games, the Oilers have been tinkering with their bottom 6 forwards as they feel there is a stronger need for scoring especially from the 3C position.
Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch has tried several players at that position including Adam Henrique, Ryan Nugent Hopkins and Mattias Janmark.
One player, however, could be a solution without making a move as Philp was the last prospect to be sent down to Bakersfield prior to the beginning of the season.
He had shown the Oilers that he was ready for the NHL , but the team felt he was better off with the Condors to continue to perfect his game after a long absence.
Through 26 games, he has scored eight goals with eight assists for 16 points and is a + 4 with 19 penalty minutes. This puts him tied for third in points with Bakersfield and has picked up his pace as of late.
The Oilers, along with the rest of the NHL will face a busy schedule between the beginning of January all the way to the Four Nations face off as the season has been compressed which puts many games in a back-to-back situation.
It's likely the Oilers will look to their farm team for potential reinforcements which could put Philp right at the top of the list in case of injuries or several games in several nights.
The team is currently on a five-game road trip which is now switched to the East Coast where the Oilers will head over to TD Gardens to take on Brad Marchand and the Boston Bruins.
The game will be on January 7th then game time will be 7:00 PM eastern.
