Over the past couple of weeks, there has been much speculation from the Vancouver organization that the rift and feud that has been brewing between forwards Elias Pettersson and J.T Miller Has reached the team's limit.
Since the story broke, several key Vancouver members including general manager Patrik Allvin, captain Quinn Hughes and coach Rick Tocchet have voiced their concerns and dislike of the ongoing situation which is added more fuel to the fire.
Both players possess a no movement clause and if the Rangers offered Zibanejad to the Canucks it means they were able to get him to waive that clause as the Rangers are seeking some changes of their own after being mired in their worst slump in team history.
Miller was drafted by the Rangers back in 2011, first round 15th overall. There have been several discussions of a possible deal but nothing has transpired up until today's news.
Even with missing several games, Miller has been productive for the Canucks as he has played 29 games, scored eight goals with 21 assists for 29 points.
Both players have long term contracts as Pettersson is in his first year of his eight-year deal that's worth $92 million with the capital 11.5 million per season. Miller Has entered his second year of his seven-year deal with the Canucks and holds a cap hit of $8 million per season.
It's likely the two teams will continue to discuss a potential deal as more assets will be needed to make the deal work.
It's safe to say the Canucks would like to put this behind them as soon as possible as the team continues to flail in the standings and has had trouble putting wins together over the past couple of weeks.
