In order to help players set up pension plans and make sure that the proper athletes were being fairly paid, the NHL Player Association was founded in 1957.

Currently, the NHL Players Association is being sued for failing to report proper income, which led to paying players less and raising the question, "Where did that money go?." TSN's Rick Westhead has disclosed the following:

Former NHLPA consultant Richard Rodier has filed a $100M lawsuit against his former employer, alleging it misused his confidential info to pursue claims that NHL teams underreported revenue, which allowed them to pay players less money.

Richard Rodier, who once worked with Jim Balsillie to try and buy an NHL team, alleges in a new lawsuit that NHLPA officials inappropriately used confidential information he provided to the union.

If Richard Rodier wins in this lawsuit, there will surely be a lot of speculation from both current and former players.
