The NHL season has started with a bang, and as more teams open their schedules, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Montreal Canadiens began their journey in 2023 for this new season. As the game unfolded, these two rivals never disappoint when they meet, whether it's in Toronto or Montreal.
Both teams traded multiple-goal leads, and the Maple Leafs' fan base experienced many highs and lows. One significant high occurred when superstar
Auston Matthews scored his eighth career hat trick.
As all hockey fans know, when a hat trick is scored (which is three goals in one game), people throw their hats onto the ice as a sign of respect for the player's great accomplishment.
It appears that Maple Leafs fans did not bring their hats that day, as many fans threw their free scarfs onto the ice instead.
While it may seem a little unorthodox to throw these scarfs onto the ice, if you don't have a hat, I guess that would work to show respect toward your superstar. The Maple Leafs ended up winning this barn burner 6-5 in a shootout."
