The Edmonton Oilers work to grow the hockey community
The NHL/NHLPA and the Edmonton Oilers have partnered up to promote hockey in Edmonton.
They have initiated a program called First Shift that aims to make the sport more accessible to young children and their families.
This will increase the number of kids who will participate in the game.

The NHL/NHLPA First Shift is open to children ages 6-10*, who have never previously enrolled in minor hockey within Canada or the NHL/NHLPA First Shift program.
*To be eligible to participate, children must be born between January 1, 2013, and May 1, 2018.
First Shift offers two programs- Program A and Program B. Program A involves 10 on-ice instructors and 45 participants, ensuring a great student-to-teacher ratio.
Program B, on the other hand, involves 7 on-ice instructors and 30 participants and lasts for 6 weeks with an hour-long session each week.
The goal of First Shift is to provide affordable access to hockey for families who have never tried the sport before.
Local minor hockey clubs will distribute all equipment required for the program, and they will also be your contact points for communication. Participants will learn essential skills such as basic skating, puck handling, movement patterns, and games that ensure engagement.
