The San Jose Sharks Overcharged The Oilers for Karlsson
It was reported that the Edmonton Oilers were discussing Erik Karlsson with the San Jose Sharks.
However, Karlsson has since been traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins for a substantial return, as he is a highly skilled Norris-Trophy-winning defenseman.
According to Elliotte Friedman, it is believed that during the original negotiations, the Sharks were asking for multiple 1st round draft picks for Karlsson.
Elliotte Friedman believes the San Jose Sharks originally asked the Edmonton Oilers for «multiple first-round picks» when they were interested in Erik Karlsson last season.
The Oilers didn't want to accommodate and decided to acquire Mattias Ekholm instead, and in the end, the Sharks had to settle for a bit less than their original asking price. The recent trade between the Penguins and Kyle Dubas suggests that the Sharks may have been trying to overcharge the Oilers.
As a result, the Oilers decided to acquire Mattias Ekholm instead, who has been a valuable asset to their lineup.
