GM Ken Holland attempted to transform his team's weak defence by signing goalie Jack Campbell. So far, that has been a nightmare to witness. With that said, two other players may be gone from the Oilers lineup as well.

Jack Campbell

Campbell has been nothing but a huge disappointment for the Oiler this season. His stats are horrible, and that is why backup goalie Stuart Skinner has been playing more between the pipes.

Campbell has a less than impressive 3.57 goals-against average, with an even worse .882 save percentage. Somehow he has collected an excellent 17-9-4 record which can be attributed to the Oilers explosive offence.

Campbell may attract quite a bit of interest in the offseason for his services. He does carry a 10-team no-trade list, so things could get interesting come summertime.

To have some stability in net the Oilers went ahead and signed Skinner to a three-year $7.8 million contract. The Oilers may be forced into finding another goalie if they can trade Campbell. There were a few goalies rumoured to be traded before the trade deadline.

Karel Vejmelka or John Gibson would do nicely in conjunction with Skinner for next season. We'll see how things go, but don't count on seeing Campbell's #36 on the ice for Edmonton after this season unless something exceptional happens before that.

Ryan Murray

Murray has been on LTIR since December 23, 2022. He has only appeared in 13 games this season, and the bad-luck defenceman doesn't seem to be in the picture going forward in Edmonton.

He hasn't played an entire season since 2015. He is an UFA and holds a $750,000 contract. Unless he magically recovers from his back injury, it doesn't appear he will be on Holland's radar for next season.

Mattias Janmark

Janmark has only tallied six goals in 50 games and will be an UFA this summer. His $1.25 million contract can be used for other more productive players.

While he is a versatile forward, it looks like Holland will allow him to walk and seek other employment. He was signed in July of last year as a free agent. It seems his services are no longer needed.

In today's tough, tight salary cap world, all GM's will be searching their lineups and looking for players of value and most importantly those who can produce.

Unfortunately for Janmark, he comes up short in both of those catagories.
