Top Prospect Ditches The NHL And Signs in China
San Jose Sharks' Former First-Round Pick Ryan Merkley Joins Kunlun Red Star in China
Ryan Merkley, a former first-round selection of the San Jose Sharks, has inked a deal with the Kunlun Red Star of the KHL in China. The defenseman, originally taken 21st overall in 2018, encountered issues within NHL locker rooms, prompting his trade request earlier.
He eventually moved to the Colorado Eagles during the 2022-23 season.
With a tally of two goals and 20 assists over 58 AHL games, Merkley aims to revitalize his career internationally despite Kunlun Red Star's challenging performance.
