Vegas Golden Knights are moving on from Robin Lehner
Robin Lehner has had a long career in the NHL, entering the league on the Ottawa Senators as their second round draft pick in 2009. Unfortunately, Lehner's career has been riddled with injuries and health struggles. He has been an amazing goalie when he has played, but has not played many seasons without games lost due to injury. He was traded in the 2019-20 season to the Vegas Golden Knights to play behind the great Marc-Andre Fleury, and possibly help the knights to another deep playoff push. He then played in the 2020-21 season behind Fleury again, but missed many games due to various upper and lower-body injuries.
This led to the 2021-22 season, where he had one of his healthiest seasons yet. This changed on March 8th, where in a game against the Philadelphia Flyers, he was taken out of the game due to an injury. He attempted to play through the injury, but was put on LT-IR on April 22nd due to a season ending shoulder surgery.
Finally in the 2022-23 season, he would miss the entire season due to a brutal double hip surgery, and has not played a game since April 20th of 2022. This leads many to wonder; what does the future hold for Robin Lehner? SinBinVegas gives us a preview of what is to come for Lehner:
This conclusion makes a lot of sense to most. Vegas rode into this season on the back of their cup winning duo, Logan Thompson and Adin Hill. Both have continued their vezina-contending play in this season, despite some ever persistent injury issues. This leaves Lehner as the odd-man out, as his future health is also up for debate. He still sits on LT-IR, and consensus says he will stay that way until an announcement of his retirement. There is definitely no spot for him in Vegas, and it looks doubtful he will ever play a game in the NHL again.
